The morecommon, albeit less thrilling, activities include hot air balloon rides that offer tourists breathtaking aerial views of the pyramids and the ancient Egyptian temples; birding or bird-watching; snorkeling and scuba diving in the Red Sea; and the more romantic felucca sailing down the Nile River whose banks are not only full of crocodiles and hippos but also decorated with the most incredible structures reminiscent of Egypt’s glorious past.
A number of more exciting activities are offeredto the braver and bolder.The most popular of these is going off on a camel trek or a jeep safari expedition across Egypt’s deserts. Travel companies in Egypt offer desert safari adventures for individuals or groups.
These safari packages often come with an expert guide or guides, sufficient food and drinks, hours of riding through the desert, and several nights of camping and sleeping under the stars.
Trekking through one of the deserts alone is already an adventure as people get the chance to catch glimpses of thedesert wildlife and wonder at the beautiful monoliths that took hundreds of years to form. But some packages also includestopovers at several of Egypt’s popularhistorical attractions like the Great Pyramid of Giza or the rock temples in Abu Simbel while some offer visits toEgypt’s beautiful lush oases and to remote places like the mysterious Silica Glass Field.
Walking around and discovering Egypt’s ancient temples, tombs and pyramids is a great way to get to know the country and its fascinating history but there are alternatives for the bolder and more adventurous tourists to see and experience the country.
